E .W Kenyon once told the story of a little boy who had grown up in an atmosphere of love and had never heard his mother and father quarrel, never heard an insulting word spoken in their home. One time he was made to go live with his uncle while his parents traveled for some days.

An argument ensued, and for the first time in his young life he saw a man insulting his wife and the child listened in amazement and began to cry. His uncle took him in his arms and said, “Danny, what is the matter dear?” The boy, still crying said, “I thought you loved Aunty”. “I do”, the uncle replied. “Oh no, you don’t. You don’t love like daddy loves, or like mommy does. They never insult each other. They never say bad words to each other”. The man looked at the child embarrassed and turned to his wife and said, “Dear, I guess we have missed a great deal in life, haven’t we?”

1 Corinthians 13:7

“Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Wouldn’t you want to live in such an atmosphere of love? The Love of God when let loose in a person, constrains him/her. It holds us back from saying or doing what we should not. And compels us to do and say what we must. In a home where love reigns, we don’t injure one another with words and actions. Not even a single abusive word. LET LOVE REIGN IN YOUR HOME, BELOVED. Hallelujah!

Which is why in 1 Peter 4:8, the Bible says:

Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others].

Have you ever heard the saying, “He had it coming.”? Or some other person will say, “He deserved it. He can’t run over me and get away with it.” That’s not Love talking. LOVE COVERS OFFENSES AND MISTAKES. If Jesus hadn’t covered our sins and blotted it out, where would you and I be?

A home could never be destroyed if every member could be taught to take his/her place in love. The wife will never remember the past mistakes of the husband and vice versa. Oh! What serene homes we would have?

“It’s all my fault darling”, Love exclaims. “Had I spoken differently, or done differently that wouldn’t have happened.” The offense will be covered and forgiven. There will be no divorce ever. This is the plague of most relationships and marriages: There is No Love in it; And offenses are recorded on a tape recorder and played every evening.

LEARN TO LET GO AND COVER OFFENSES AND SINS. THAT’S WHAT LOVE DOES.

Look at how the Amplified puts 1 Corinthians 13:7 that we read earlier,

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

LOVE REALLY DOES COVER OFFENSES AND MISTAKES AND BELIEVES THE BEST OF PEOPLE. What did Jesus do when He was falsely accused, insulted and slandered? The Bible says, “He answered nothing”.

‘And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing. Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.’ – Matt 27:12‭-‬14

Jesus was ready to cover the sins and offenses done against him, even to die for it. He left us the love example to follow. And not only an example to follow, but He has put His Life and His Love in us – giving us the ability to do likewise. ‘Love bears up under anything and everything that comes… Love endures everything.’ Many wrongs and offenses were done unto Jesus but he remained silent in love, unto death. IN THE END, LOVE WON IN THE RESURRECTION. DIDN’T IT? LOVE WILL WIN IN YOUR CASE, BELOVED. Hallelujah!
