Romans 8:5-8 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
Someone asked me, “How does this old man who is dead still influence how the born again person lives?”
Well, it’s quite simple. Think of it this way:
Assume that you are a woman married to a man who desires to eat Waakye every morning, so every morning for many years you have been preparing Waakye as a result. This man dies, and you remarried to another man. This your new husband doesn’t like waakye; he prefers fufu every morning. But for some reason, you still prefer to prepare waakye in the morning. Your NEW husband doesn’t like it; waakye is the desire of your OLD husband but you are so accustomed to it and that’s what you want to do.
Your OLD MAN is dead, but the DEEDS of the old nature could still linger on if you don’t learn to lay it aside. So
Colossians 3:9-10 says,
“Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds , and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him”
There is a difference between THE DEEDS OF THE OLD MAN and THE OLD MAN HIMSELF. The old man is dead but HIS DEEDS could still be with you. So Paul explains in Romans,
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires
That is it. Shalom to you. Hallelujah!
GRACEFUL MORNING
