Ever heard of a dead man struggling to die? Sounds absurd, right? Well, some of us live like that. We are dead men yet struggling to die……Wait, I know you are not dead, as in dead, you wouldn’t be reading this if you were(lol). What I mean is that, the believer, baptized into the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus is dead to sin and empowered to live the new life in Christ. (Romans 6:4)
But most of us sing the lullaby of our struggles with our sins, to sooth our feelings and make us feel we are trying in our struggles. Someone will say “I really want to come out of this life of immorality, you have no idea how badly I want to end this all, you don’t understand but I am struggling to stop” …… Well, quit struggling! And live the new life you have in Christ. Another might also say “if I am dead, then why do I still struggle with pornography?” you are because you probably have forgotten that you were united with Jesus in his death so as Christ died when he became sin, you died in Him also.
Yes, you may say where sin abounds, Grace abounds even more so is that a license to persist in sin? Romans 6:2(TPT) says that’s a terrible thought! You are dead to sin. A person who has died need not struggle to die again, he is dead! The stronghold of sin over your life is broken. Sin has been deprived of its power over you, please get this. We have been co-resurrected with Him so that we would be empowered to walk in the freshness of new life so quit struggling dear one. Quit being an available tool for sin to find expression because now you are in Christ, you have no obligation to the flesh but to the Spirit (Romans 8:12-14). Your former identity with sin is deprived of its power, the only person feeding the thoughts of sin in your life is you! Some of us think our sins are too strong to come out of……oooooh child of God. Align your thoughts to the Word of God because that is your reality. Stop preaching to yourself that your sin has much power over you and intentionally live daily as dead and unresponsive to sins appeal. It is your responsibility to allow yourself be transformed by renewing your mind with the Word of God so your senses become alive to the Spirit and the ways of the Spirit. If you don’t renew your mind with the Word of God, you will continue living the struggling mentality.
Spend time in meditation on the Word of God, set your mind on what the spirit desires as you tune in to the Spirit, and believe and do what the Word says you should because God cannot lie. If He says you are dead to sin and alive in the Spirit let that be your reality daily and refuse to yield your body as tools for sin. Live for His pleasure everyday and remember this, sin will not conquer you for God already reigns as King in you. Hallelujah !
