Matthew 7:15-18 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
So how do we tell the counterfeit brethren from the true ones? How do you know that one is a false prophet or a false teacher? Jesus answers that by saying,
“By their fruits you will know them.”
Of course, the Fruits of a tree always will tell you what kind of tree it is. When you see apples on a particular tree, you cannot mistaken it for a mango tree, will you? Even if you don’t know how apple trees look like(because we don’t grow natural apples in Ghana) when you see apples hanging from a tree, it’s a clear indication that this is an apple tree, right? In the same way, by people’s deeds or misdeeds, by their actions and words you will know what kind of tree they are. So Jesus said,
Every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
So always look out for the fruits – it’s your sure guide to who is true or fake. But in this solution lies another problem, namely: Fruit bearing is not instantaneous – it always takes time to see fruits on a tree. So when you come and see a 4 months old tree which has no fruits on it, how do you tell that it is a mango tree or an orange tree? When the fruits are not evident yet, how do we tell a bad tree from a good one? When they are all wearing clericals and looking good and innocent, and have not shown any bad deeds yet, how do I know which one is the false prophet? These are questions for the Spirit Of God to answer.
May your day be full of bliss in Jesus name. Amen!
GRACEFUL MORNING
