1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, THE JUST FOR THE UNJUST, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

It’s true that Jesus suffered beatings and mockery and torture for us, but the SPIRITUAL TORMENT He endured was much more distressing than those physical sufferings. Let’s discuss a little bit more about what Jesus had to go through spiritually for us…

When he hung on that cross, he was made accursed for us. That is because he had become the PERSONIFICATION OF SIN. On that cross, Jesus was not just a sinner in our place but He had become SIN itself. He had absorbed all the sins of the world so much such that he became sin in person. He who knew no sin became sin for us(2 Corinthians 5:21). At that point if you had asked the question, “What is sin?”, the answer would have been “Jesus Christ”. The Father couldn’t look at him any longer, and for the 1st time God forsook him and separated from him because the Father despises sin. Jesus cried with a loud shout, “Father Father, why has thou forsaken me?”, but there was no response. It was a dark and gloomy day never before experienced in all the universe.

And because he became sin, he attracted all the curse and judgement of sin. He became SIN so that we can become the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God; he was CONDEMNED so that we can be declared ‘NOT GUILTY’; He was ACCURSED so that we can be called BLESSED. DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO CAN SHOW YOU MUCH LOVE THAN JESUS DID? Do you? Glooooory.
