Matthew 6:1-2 AMP “Be [very] careful not to do your good deeds publicly, to be seen by men; otherwise you will have no reward [prepared and awaiting you] with your Father who is in heaven. “So whenever you give to the poor and do acts of kindness, do not blow a trumpet before you [to advertise it], as the hypocrites do [like actors acting out a role] in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored and recognized and praised by men. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, they [already] have their reward in full.
MOTIVES ARE EVERYTHING. When you give to others, or when you give in church, why do you do it? What is the motivation or reason behind your acts of kindness and help you give to others? Is it for fame and publicity? If not, why do you publicize it everywhere for all to see?
When you get up in church to give an offering, what is propelling you in your heart to do that? Do you feel, “if I don’t also give, everyone will know I didn’t give”? Or do you give because it is a ‘Kofi and Ama’ fundraising and you don’t want ‘Kofi’ to be last? WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION FOR GIVING?
Jesus said, the hypocrites, when they give, they sound a trumpet for all to see what they have done [AS ACTORS ACTING OUT A ROLE]. In today’s world, that is the same as posting it everywhere on social media. Their DMs and statuses will be full of it. Everyone must hear that you gave to an orphanage. WHY?
Listen, dear one. There is no longer any reward awaiting you with God, when your motivation for giving is for men to see. You have already received your reward in full. EXAMINE YOUR INTENTS AND MOTIVES THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE GIVING OR DOING ANY KIND DEED – your eternal rewards depend on it. Be blessed!
GRACEFUL MORNING
