I Samuel 17:4,8,9 NKJV[4] And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.[8] Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. [9] If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.”
The story of David facing Goliath always fascinates me as a student of the Bible. Goliath was a giant who stood above 9ft tall. By comparison, you must realise that the average height for men is 5ft. The tallest man on earth is 8ft 2.8in. Goliath stood huge and tall, hips above the average soldier.
No wonder he sent fear and shiver down the spines of all the armies of Israel. The Bible says,
‘When Saul and the Israelites heard him, they were terrified and deeply shaken.’
But David knew something more. He knew he was not alone. He knew that the power and presence of God with him is far more potent and terrifying than Goliath. So whiles goliath was threatening and cursing, David screamed at him,
“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. – I Samuel 17:45-46
Yes. The Lord is with you. The greater one lives in you. He has promised never to leave you nor forsake you. And he doesn’t break a promise. ALWAYS FACE THE DAY AND EVERY MOUNTAIN OR GOLIATH BEFORE YOU WITH THAT MIND, THAT THE GREATER ONE LIVES IN YOU. You have overcome. Hallelujah! Be blessed. Amen.
