Mark 6:2-3, 5 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him. Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.
When Jesus came to Nazareth, his own hometown, where he grew up, he was met with a huge opposition.
The people were so familiar with him that they refused to look beyond the familiarity. They pointed hands and made fun of him, “Is he not the carpenter, Mary’s son? A few years ago, was he not the one playing football with bear feet at the sakora park? And today he says he is the Messiah? Oh leave him!” They continued, “Is he not the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Oh please, let us think. He is NO MESSIAH” It’s like today, you will hear people say, “If he is a man of God, am I a monkey of God?”, making mockery of the office of the pastor.
And as a result of their familiarity, which led to unbelief and doubt, the Bible says, JESUS COULD NOT DO ANY MIGHTY WORKS THERE. I want you to pay attention to the tenses. It didn’t say, HE DID NOT, but that, HE COULD NOT. Meaning, he probably wanted to, or even tried to, but the miracles wouldn’t come. This is Jesus, the creator of the universe, but yet COULD NOT DO SOME THINGS because he was limited. The Bible says, “And He marveled because of their unbelief.” And he quickly run away from that town to other places where he will be believed and received.
Beloved, I want you to ask yourself, “In what ways have I limited Jesus in my own life? In what areas have I quenched the work of the Spirit through my unbelief and doubt? Where have I been so familiar with the anointing that it is costing me mighty miracles?” Ponder on these and pray that the MERCIES of God will absolve your errors, and the GRACE of God will speak for you. Remove all familiarity, unbelief and doubt from your heart and see the deliverance of the Lord. You are blessed in Jesus name. Amen!
GRACEFUL MORNING
