In Genesis 3:9, Bible says “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?”
Sometimes in the chapters of my life, I come to the verse where I also ask “GOD, where art thou?” because there are days devotion and fellowship with God is like heaven kissing the earth with His presence and I feel the warmth of His love and a flood of joy unleashed with a feeling like electricity literally passing through me and then there are days it looks as though I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and I just can’t feel GOD. Nothing in fellowship or devotion is interesting because it’s all dry! And those are the moments I sing ‘Lord you seem so far away, a million miles or more it feels to me….’lol
If you have been on this boat before like I have many times, give me a nod. Let me share with you how God is helping me stay in consistent fellowship with HIM whether I feel Him or Not.
2 Corinthians 5:7 says we walk by faith and not by sight. Thank God for the beautiful times when I can feel Him but I don’t have to always live by my feelings or sight to be close to God. I ought to live by faith in the integrity of God’s Word, so even when I don’t feel Him near, the Word of God says “…..I am with you always even unto the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20) and that’s my assurance. The word of God supersedes my feelings and encounters and I have got to believe it. Let me ask you this, when you got born again did you receive a pop up notification like “Welcome to God’s Family, Child of God”? I bet most of us felt nothing after praying the sinner’s prayer but we believed the Word of God. Exactly! Learn to put the Word of God above your feelings because the fact is, your feelings won’t always want to be for God. It will want so many other things and preferences, so if that’s your criteria, you can be sure of living a fluctuating spiritual life. But God doesn’t want to miss fellowshipping with you. In fact, he desires that “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. (Songs of Solomon 2:14).
First, you ought to set the right environment around you during times like this. Intentionally set an atmosphere of the Spirit through psalms, hymns and spiritual songs or with messages/tapes of preaching
