You know Psalms 23 right? (yeah, I am sure you can recite it off-head). Another chapter in my life I find myself questioning the closeness of God is when I go through difficult or hard times. I have been reciting ‘Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me……’ but it hadn’t sunk in. True, the valley of the shadow of death is scary and frightful, but God is with you and you ought to believe it; because in our Kingdom, believing is seeing and possessing. I once asked ‘but if God is with me, what am I doing in the valley of the shadow of death in the first place?’ but I read in the scriptures that Jesus was with the disciples in the boat when the storms came (Mark 4:35-41). Being in Christ doesn’t magically push all storms away, but the assurance is that, He will never leave us, nor forsake us. BELOVED, BE AT PEACE, THE LORD IS WITH YOU IN THE FIRE AND IN THE WATERS. AND HE WILL CARRY YOU THROUGH THIS PHASE. He has said in His word: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God.” – Isaiah 43:2-3
Do you believe the Word of God? Listen, God is with you through it all. When it’s scary and when it’s fun, when it seems like you are in the valley of the shadow of death or not – Believe the Word, friend! When in times like this, get on a word diet. Consciously read and meditate on the Word of God. Reading without meditation doesn’t do much so be conscious about thinking on the word and uttering what the word says out loud to yourself. In the Greek that is called “HAGAR”- when you roar out the word. Think on the Word until out of the abundance of it in your spirit, the mouth roars it.
Finally, sometimes God feels distant when I have entertained contradictory lifestyles. And so during such moments, I take the time away to be with HIM and also to examine my ways in the Lord and He is so gracious and merciful that He always opens me up to me and helps me become who He wants me to be. So you can also take some time to lay aside every weight and receive grace and help to run your race and refuse to let the enemy lay any guilt or condemnation on you. Then take a step of faith in prayer and living in the Spirit.
Let me leave you with this song and let it be your confidence in the Lord “Even when I don’t feel it you’re working, even when I don’t see it you’re working……. You never stop, you never stop working…….. Hallelujah!
