Colossians 1:17-18 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
If I should ask you , “What is your church?”, what would be your response? A lot of us will reply with our denominations, ie, Assemblies of God, Methodist, Presby, Catholic, et cetera.
But to God there is ONE CHURCH and ONE BODY, and the Bible singularly affirms that. You are not going to find a single verse of scripture that mentions any of these denominations or sects in the Bible because God sees One Universal Church.
You would however find a local reference for the church in a particular district or place: The church in Antioch, or the church in Caesarea, or the church in Corinth…or the church in the house of Nymphas, etc. But it was always the same Church Of God, though now localized.
That is what Jesus referred to when He said,
” I will build my CHURCH*; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”-Matthew 16:18
This begs the question,
‘How did we become so divided’? It’s a long story and we will answer it in due time, but here is the summary of the matter:
I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO LEAVE YOUR LOCAL CHURCH, BUT I AM SHOWING YOU THAT IN THE EYES OF GOD, THERE IS ONLY ONE CHURCH AND ONE BODY OF CHRIST – AND IF YOU ARE BORN AGAIN YOU ARE A PART OF THAT CHURCH. Let that be your first thought and response to the question of what church you belong to; not your denomination or sect. Glory to God! Your week is glorious and peaceful in Jesus name. Amen!
GRACEFUL MORNING
