Matthew‬ ‭13:5‭-‬6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ [5] Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth.  [6] But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 

In explaining the seed that fell on stony ground, Jesus said, “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;  yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.” 

This is the 2nd level of knowledge, you understand the word but your understanding is shallow. There is no depth. And as a result, you cannot bear fruits. Because In the kingdom of God, your ROOTS determine your FRUITS. Tree plants that grow very high up inversely have very deep roots. It is so with your Christian living as well. THE WORD OF GOD THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU AND PRODUCE RESULTS WHEN YOU NEED IT, MUST HAVE DEEP ROOTS IN YOUR HEART AND MIND. If your understanding is shallow, you would be found wanting when that word is tested. And oh, the tests will surely come. For EVERY WORD THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE LORD WILL BE TESTED.
