John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Romans 8:15-16 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God
Another great spiritual blessing we received in Christ is THE BLESSING OF ADOPTION AS CHILDREN OF GOD. What a blessing it is!
We who were aliens and strangers and sinners, far removed from the life and purity of God. We were by nature children of wrath and uncleanness – there was nothing good about us. But because of His great love and His rich mercy Jesus came for us and adopted us into his family.
Think about it this way, just as in the days of slavery. You were a slave to a cruel master(the devil) who beat you and tormented and tortured you everyday. All you ever did were terrible things because that’s what your slave master demanded. Then someone came and paid a ransom for you and transferred you from that place to his fine home. Technically you are supposed to be his slave now because he bought you. But this new master took the chains from your neck and hands, and cleansed you and gave you beautiful clothes to wear and declared to the entire neighborhood that you are his new adopted son. To affirm that declaration he took away the slave name you had and gave you his name. Your story has changed, your name has changed, your identity has changed. When you step out, you no longer respond to the slave name any longer, but you only answer to your new adopted name. Praise God. That’s what Jesus did for you and I.
So John exclaimed,
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God..” (1 John 3:1)
This is such a beautiful tale. YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE ADOPTION OF THE FATHER, AND YOU ARE NO LONGER A SLAVE BUT A CHILD OF GOD. Glory be to God Forevermore. Give him praise, beloved.
