Mark 4:7,18-19 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
The serious thing about the unfruitful ones Jesus likened to as ‘thorny grounds’, is that they know the Word, they understand the word, they would want to do the Word; BUT THERE ARE THINGS THAT OBSTRUCT OR CHOKE THE WORD.
The believer who hardly prays due to work knows very well about the importance of prayer. But his work has become a weed that takes away all his essential time for God. The lady who can’t spend any time to think or meditate on God’s word due to her “many worries” knows about the significance of meditation; but her mind is preoccupied with other cares and worries there is no space for God’s Word.
You say you are not affected by this? What is the first thing that weighs on your mind when you wake up in the morning? Is it the new messages or likes you have received on WhatsApp and Snapchat? Do you get to talk to God first before exchanging tweets? Or not?
What is it that occupies your mind and attention all day? Business? Money? Pleasure? Are you able to take a break and talk to God? Or spend some moments within your busy day to think of His goodness?
What is it that stays on your mind and goes to bed with you? And follows you through the restless hours of the night? What is it? Is it movies? Or series? Or what?
These are all the weeds and diseased and dead buds and shoots stealing life from you and making you unfruitful in the Lord’s vine. Do you want the Lord to help you with it? Or you like your weeds as they are? Selah! Have a blessed day in Jesus name. Amen!
GRACEFUL MORNING
