Matthew 5:38-41 You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
For a lot of people, their natural reaction to evil is to respond in similar fashion even though they are children of God. Their governing motto is ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ Why should I allow someone to walk over me?
But do you realise, that’s exactly what Jesus taught against? He said,
You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ “But I say unto you, THAT YE RESIST NOT EVIL.”
Jesus’ teachings were on a different plane. He doesn’t want you to fight evil with evil but rather with good. He tells you to LOVE YOUR ENEMIES and to turn the other cheek, because without you knowing it, when you respond to evil with good you render the evil powerless against you; and even more, by this spiritual law you transmute or change the evil into good unto your own self. Your enemy’s weapon becomes an aiding tool working for your good.
But what many people do is to respond to the evil with evil and hatred and resentment, magnifying the evil and harming themselves in the process. It’s a common scientific knowledge today, that a lot of sicknesses are psychosomatic (they originate from negative emotions in your soul). Cancers, arthritis, rheumatism, and many sicknesses as such are a result of a build up of hatred and resentment and revenge in the soul. No wonder many people all over the world are sick and cannot trace the source of the sickness.
Beloved, Don’t repay evil with evil. But love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. That is a more excellent way to live. Be blessed!
GRACEFUL MORNING
