“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” –1 Timothy 6:17-19
When you do a good study of the entire epistle to Timothy, you will find that the Apostle was teaching how GAIN IS NOT GODLINESS; And how the love of money is the root of all evil. You can be rich in money, but poor in good works, which in effect makes you poor in heaven. Which is why he warns the rich not to be high-minded/arrogant and not put their trust in their money. Because you can actually put your trust in money such that all you wake up for is making money. You spend all your time amassing wealth that you have no time for your spiritual growth, no time for the kingdom of God. You have no time for anything else if it doesn’t bring money. Money is good, but BE CAREFUL IF MONEY IS BECOMING YOUR TRUST.
Jesus made a profound statement in Luke 12:15 which I want you to brood on:
And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” SELAH!
Matthew 6:25-26 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
I once approached a gentleman with the Gospel of Salvation, and he said to me, “Will this put money in my pocket?” He wasn’t interested if it didn’t make money. But he should have been interested because it involved his soul and his eternity. It’s like that for many of us: We don’t have time for anything else if it doesn’t bring money. The pursuit of money has become everything to us. You wake up at dawn and return at dusk in pursuit of money. You can’t make time to pray any longer, you don’t make time for God’s Word because you will be late for work. You no longer do anything for God’s kingdom and you miss services because you have to make more money. Your own family hardly enjoys you now. WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT A MAN IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD AND YET LOSE HIS SOUL? WHAT?
Jesus said, “A Man’s Life Consisteth Not In The Abundance Of The Things Which He Possesses”. My brother, THERE’S MORE TO LIFE THAN MAKING MONEY AND AMASSING WEALTH. DON’T LET THE PURSUIT OF MONEY ROB YOU OF THE TRUE ESSENCE OF LIFE; DON’T MISS THE FOREST FOR THE TREE. Selah!
So Jesus counseled the rich young ruler in Luke 18:22-23, who came to ask Jesus how to inherit eternal life. ‘Jesus said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.‘
We all know how to make money and amass earthly wealth(or atleast some of us do), but how do you lay treasures in heaven? How do you become rich towards God? Of course, it is by your GOOD WORKS done in Christ. Jesus said, ” And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his WORK shall be.” – Revelations 22:12
Our God is just and righteous – you can trust in these qualities of His: His JUSTICE and His RIGHTEOUSNESS. Men may forget what you do for them and leave you unrewarded, but God doesn’t. And he has said, EVERY WORK WILL BE REWARDED. At the end, there will be a Judgement Seat Of Christ, or what we call the “Bema Seat”. This is a rewards ceremony, where the crowns and rewards are awarded to the winners according to their works. The Bible specifically mentions 5 different crowns. Some will receive all 5 crowns and more…others 2 crowns…and others none(they will suffer lose) – All according to our works.
Beloved, Examine Yourself And Determine To Live A Life Worthy Of Rewards. Determine to lay for yourself heavenly treasures and credit your heavenly account, which is even more important than your earthly accounts. Hallelujah! Have a prosperous week in His Name. Amen.
