Psalms 39:5-6
Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, And does not know who will gather them.
Take stock of your life – It’s a good practice to know what you have. One cardinal rule in sailing is, ‘To know where you are going, you must know where you are’. So do an inventory of what you have. Most people cannot even tell you what they have; they simply don’t know what they are worth – That’s not financially prudent.
But as you take stock of your earthly wealth, Now let’s do that on your heavenly wealth:
How much are you worth in heaven? How many souls have you won? How many have you built up? How much have you invested in the kingdom of God? What lives have you impacted? What is your spiritual track record? SELAH! SELAH!
Why do we ask these? The psalmist said,
‘Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.: (Psalms 62:10)
Brood on that, IF YOUR RICHES INCREASES, SET NOT YOUR HEART UPON THEM. Selah!
