James 4:4-5 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
In his book, ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’, John Bunyan describes a man, “Mr Facing Bothways”. This man wants to face north and south at the same time. Is that possible?
But that’s exactly how some of us want to live. WE WANT CHRIST, BUT WE ALSO WANT THE WORLD. One poet friend of mine jokingly quizzed me, “Why can’t I eat my cake and have it?” I responded, “Because you can’t.”
YOU CAN’T FACE TWO DIRECTIONS AT THE SAME TIME; YOU CAN’T LOOK UP AND AT THE SAME TIME LOOK DOWN; YOU CAN’T BE A FRIEND OF THE WORLD AND BE A FRIEND OF GOD. The scriptural position on this is, “Whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
So what’s it going to be for you? Are you a friend of the world and thereby making yourself an enemy of God? Or are you a friend of God, and hence an enemy of the world?
*IF YOU ARE FOR CHRIST, THEN YOU MUST BE ALL IN.* Jesus demands your ALL.
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25)
Which direction are you facing? Christ or the world? Your choice, but it won’t be both. Be blessed! Amen!
GRACEFUL MORNING
