Psalms 23:1,2 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures ; He leads me beside the still waters.
Psalms 78:72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
So the 2 main duties of the Shepherd is to FEED and to RULE . The ruling involves many things including GUIDING or LEADING or SHOWING THE WAY.
Then Moses spoke to the Lord , saying: “Let the Lord , the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”-(Numbers 27:15-17)
God’s plan is to bring you into the light; then once in the light, you can show others the way to the light. So on the general level, the Lord uses Shepherd’s to guide the flock or congregation and lead them into the glorious light of Christ. Likewise, on a personal level when you evangelize to someone and take the responsibility to disciple them you are technically shepherding him/her.
Once you are in the light, you can lead and guide another on the path of life that you are on. It’s pretty simple: It’s like a big brother holding the hand of his little sister to school. He is matured enough so knows the way to school, but the little sister cannot go on her own at that stage, so he leads her.
The writer of Hebrews admonished us:
“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”-Heb 6:12
WHATEVER LEVEL YOU ARE AT, THERE ARE PEOPLE AHEAD OF YOU WHO CAN GUIDE YOU, AND THERE ARE PEOPLE BELOW YOU WHOM YOU SHOULD GUIDE. This is God’s order of shepherding. Hallelujah!
GRACEFUL MORNING
