Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
The truth is this:
YOU CANNOT SERVE TWO MASTERS AT THE SAME TIME. YOU CANNOT HAVE TWO LORDS. It’s either JESUS or what ever other thing you want it to be; but it can never be both.
And Jesus explained the reason to be that, you cannot possibly be devoted to both in the same way; Either you will hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to one and be against the other.
The gentleman doesn’t come to church any longer, and when he is asked, he says my work doesn’t permit me. WHO IS YOUR MASTER? Jesus or the work?
Another guy never makes time for his Bible and for prayer or any spiritual exercise any longer because he has to make more money. He leaves early at dawn and returns late at dusk. WHO IS HIS MASTER? Money or Christ?
One lady spends all her spare time talking to his boyfriend. She’s almost always preoccupied by this gentleman, and she has no time for personal fellowship with the Lord Christ. WHO IS HER MASTER? Christ or the boyfriend?
This is what Jesus is saying:
That thing that you are so in love with and so devoted to at the expense of your devotion to Christ, has become your Lord and Master.
IS THAT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT? Selah!
GRACEFUL MORNING
