Besides the access we have to the use of the name of Jesus Christ as a family name, and as a marital name by oneness with Christ, there is a 3rd reason.

Jesus himself gave us the POWER OF ATTORNEY to use his name in any situation. He said in John 16:23-24,

“Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.”

What is  this power of attorney and how does it work?

It is a legal instrument authorizing someone to act as the agent or representative of the other. It’s purely a legal term where the one doing the representation is called the Agent/Attorney and the one being represented is the Principal/Grantor. In principle, once the Attorney comes in the name of the Grantor, it is taken as the Grantor is there.

What this means is that: ANYTIME YOU PRAY AND DECLARE SOMETHING ‘IN THE NAME OF JESUS’, IT IS AS IF JESUS HIMSELF IS DECLARING THE THING. Your words now carry the potency and force as the words of Jesus; no wonder Jesus gave the assurance that WHATEVER YOU ASK THE FATHER IN MY NAME HE WILL GIVE YOU. Wow! Beloved, have this thought in mind whenever you pray in His name and you will see situations aligning to the power of His name. Amen!

This is how it happened: After He conquered death and the grave, the Resurrected Jesus  stood before his disciples and shouted, ‘All power in heaven and on Earth is given unto me’. Then He turned over to the disciples and said GO YE THEREFORE IN MY NAME. He passed on all that power and authority unto us legally. (Matthew 28:18-20) How many of us truly understand that we have received the Power of Attorney IN HIS NAME, and actually operate in that power?

Most often than not, we pray in His name without knowing what it means. And frankly, we would be more surprised than anyone else if the thing said ‘in Jesus name‘ happens. We take the name for granted. So praying in his name becomes a triviality.

Many believers are whipped by circumstances. Sicknesses and demoniacal forces have reigned where Christ was supposed to be Lord. And that’s because, we the Agents of Christ who are supposed to act in His stead have lacked understanding and belief in our representation. We will often conclude our prayers with ‘in Jesus name’ but it is just a religious formality – it lacks virility and true conviction. We have become docile and wimpish, when we were supposed to stand tall and be rugged ‘In His name’.

Oooohhhh! What happened to us? What happened? Selah!

Consider what happened in Luke 10:17‭-‬19,

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us IN YOUR NAME.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.  Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

In law, there are two basic types of The Power Of Attorney. There is the General Power Of Attorney and the Limited Power Of Attorney.

A ‘General power of Attorney‘ acts on behalf of the Grantor in any and all matters. From handling bank accounts, signing cheques, selling assets and property, medicals, etc. Whereas the Limited power of Attorney is restricted to specific matters(like just medical matters) and to a specific period of time (like for 2 years in the grantors absence). The amazing thing is Jesus gave us a FULL and a GENERAL AUTHORITY in His name. He said,

“I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, AND OVER ALL the power of the enemy”.

And in John 16:23, He said,

“I say to you WHATEVER you ask the Father in my name He will give you”.

The scope of authority you have ‘in his name’ is EVERYTHING at ANYTIME. Don’t cower in fear child of God. Come boldly to the throne of Grace and make demands in that wonderful name of Jesus. You are Jesus’ representative here on earth. You are his attorney. Take your place today in Jesus name. Hallelujah!
