Mark 12:30-31 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Jesus condensed all the laws of life into these two: LOVE THE LORD, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR. There is no other law that falls outside these. Which is why if LOVE is your motivation in life, you are fulfilling all the laws there are.

You will find that there are other sub motivations under these, which we will come to later. But LOVE encompasses them all. Why would I not steal from my neighbor? Or commit adultery with his wife? Or covet what is his? LOVE. If the Love of God is flowing from my heart towards my neighbor I won’t do that to him.

Why would I spend hours in prayer and worshipping God? Why would I give my all towards the advancement of the gospel, etc? Why would I preach and teach the Word of God to you? If I love God with all my heart, I would do this without difficulty or reluctance.

But you see, you can do all of the above and the reason may not be love. You could equally do these acts with something else, other than LOVE driving you.  THAT IS WHY YOU HAVE TO ESTABLISH THE “WHY” OF EVERYTHING YOU DO BEFORE YOU DO IT. Ask yourself, “WHY AM I DOING THIS?”, AND MAKE SURE IT IS GENUINE LOVE in your heart.

You can ERR in so many things; but you will never ERR in love, because LOVE IS GOD and GOD IS LOVE.
