THE SECRET OF GOOD WORKMANSHIP IS TO DO IT FOR GOD AND NOT UNTO MEN.
Ephesians 6:5-8 says, Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free.
Can you see what this does to our workforce and national economy? When the employee at work knows that he is rendering service to God with his work, he will do it heartily and diligently. He will not render eye-service(working only when the boss is around). This is why there is so much redundancy and loss especially in the public sector in Africa. Go to a normal office and see the idleness and negligence. The mantra is, ‘its government work. It’s not my father’s business.’ As a believer, you can’t think and talk that way. And it doesn’t matter whether your boss is nice or not – YOUR SERVICE IS TO GOD FIRST AND FOREMOST, not to your boss. As Christians no matter where we are, our service and work is to God. WHATSOEVER YOUR HANDS FIND TO DO, DO IT WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND DO IT AS UNTO THE LORD. Hallelujah!
JESUS CHRIST is Lord over all; Over both the master and the servant, over the employer and the employee, over the parent and the child, over the Pastor and the congregation. That’s why ALL KNEES will bow to Him someday.
Every Employer or Parent or Leader or Master must properly understand these verses:
Ephesians 6:9 – And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.
Colossians 4:1 – Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
So when you find yourself in a position of authority over others, be it your own children, employees, congregation, colleagues or friends, how do you behave? When no one is around, how do you talk to the janitor or the gateman? How do you treat the mate in the bus? It’s despicable when you see how some believers can be so rude to a mate in the bus.
THE TRUE MEASURE OF YOUR POLITENESS IS NOT HOW YOU TALK TO THE CEO, BUT HOW YOU TALK TO THE CLEANER IN THAT OFFICE.
What does the golden rule say:
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them – (Matthew 7:12)
Anytime you feel like bossing it over someone, REMEMBER THAT THE REAL BOSS IS IN HEAVEN WATCHING OVER US ALL. That should keep you humble Dear One. Selah!
