Did you ever recognize it, that Jesus actually gave the church (you and I) a blank open cheque to ask whatever we want in His name? He said,

“In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.  Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” – John 16:23-24

Thinking about it, I realize that it’s because our father is a rich God. You see the way in a rich home, they can ask the child, “what would you like to eat?”, and whatever the child wanted she gets?  You don’t try that in a poor home. In fact, the meal is just one, so you are either eating or you want to starve. Hahaaa! The audacity to give such an open request is backed by complete trust that whatever is requested can be fulfilled – There is more than enough to meet every need.

Jesus said,

“MY FATHER WILL GIVE YOU WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME”.

Wow. That is such a bold statement to make. What is in that name? What wealth and power and ability is in that name? What can it do? Or rather, what can it not do? When I think about it, I ask myself, How have we not been able to take advantage of that name and used his name accordingly?

“IF YOU ASK ANYTHING IN MY NAME, I WILL DO IT.” – Jesus(John 14:13-14). Either Jesus lied to us or we completely lack the understanding concerning what he said to us. I believe it’s the latter. And the day we grasp the understanding concerning what He said to us on the use of his name, we will become masters of the forces of life.

Note that Jesus didn’t add any conditions to the use of His name. He didn’t say if you have faith, or if you fast for 21 days, or if you are prayerful enough. He said,  “IF YOU ASK ANYTHING IN MY NAME, I WILL DO IT.” Amazing. What have we missed? You see, you don’t need faith for something you already have. When I hand over my computer to you, it becomes yours, and you don’t need faith to use it. But you do have a problem if you don’t know what a computer is and what a computer can do. You will be holding a powerful device in your hands and yet accomplish absolutely nothing with it. In the words of Jesus, He has given us his name. Understand this Child of God:

When you were born again you were born into the family of God. In this family there are rights and privileges. One of the privileges is THE USE OF THE NAME OF JESUS. But like that computer, until you know what it is and what it can do, it is as useless in your hands as though you never had it at all. Herein lies the problem for a lot of us. Which is why we need knowledge and understanding concerning the use of the name of JESUS.

When you read Acts 3:2-6, you will see the boldness and simplicity with which Peter and John used the name of Jesus to help that lame man at the Beautiful Gate. They used it as one would use a pen belonging to them.

I told you, one of the privileges you have when you are born into God’s family is the access and use of the name of Jesus. It’s a family name and you have been named with it. So Ephesians 3:15 says,

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom THE WHOLE FAMILY IN HEAVEN AND EARTH IS NAMED”

When someone is born into a royal family, he/she is identified with royalty by the royal name given to them. You simply take on the name of the family you are born into, that’s why most of us have surnames from our father’s house. Some names carry so much weight and access, others don’t. Do you know there are places you go to that just the mention of your name will open the doors? “Oh, you are the son of the former president? You can enter.” Yet for some other names, not even the kitchen doors will open. Unfortunately for some, certain doors are shut without any wrongdoing of theirs but because of the pain the name they bear brings to the people – this is true spiritually and physically. There are certain opportunities that are blocked in the realm of the spirit because of the name you bear.

But thanks be to God that it doesn’t matter what your surname is, WHEN YOU WERE BORN AGAIN, YOU WERE BORN INTO GOD’S OWN FAMILY AND YOU WERE NAMED WITH A NEW NAME OF POWER. The question is, do you know what that name is worth? Do you know how to make use of it? Do you? Selah!
